Boys hockey team runners-up in N.H. tourney

The MVRHS boys hockey team lost, 4-3, in overtime Monday to Bow, New Hampshire, in the championship game of the second annual Todd Heuchling and Brian Swift Memorial Hockey Classic played at the University of New Hampshire’s Whittemore Center Arena in Durham.

Officially, the game counts as a tie in the eyes of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA). Overtime was used simply to determine a tournament champ. Last year, the same teams met in the final, with Bow winning, 5-0.

Tyson Araujo scored twice, while brother Tristan earned two assists. Brian Fraser had one assist. Emerson Mahoney tallied 3:17 into the final period to tie the score at 3-3.

The Vineyarders started the tournament Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 win over Dover. Austin Morley scored his first varsity goal. The Purple followed up with a 5-3 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas, also of Dover. Tristan Araujo netted his first two goals as a varsity player.

The Vineyarders (3-1-1) open the Eastern Athletic Conference schedule Saturday night at 6 pm with a game at the MV Arena against Somerset Berkley.
