Scott A. Francis of Edgartown died unexpectedly on December 27, 2013. He was 48.

Born on August 13, 1965, in Oak Bluffs, Scott is survived by his parents, Robert J. Francis Sr. of Oak Bluffs and Patricia A. Mahoney of Edgartown; his three children, Caitlyn, Kyle, and Nathan Francis and their mother, Elexis Wildanger, and her husband, Eric, of Oak Bluffs. He is also survived by four siblings, Robert J. Francis Jr. and his wife, Karen, of West Tisbury, Shawna Chipperfield and her husband, David, of Edgartown, LuAnne Bettencourt of Seattle, and Desiree Terry and her husband, Nathan, of Pembroke, and by his loving nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The Island was Scott’s home and it’s where he loved to be. He was a plumber for most of his young adult life. Scott spent his free time doing what he loved, refurbishing vehicles, spending time with his friends and family, and being with the ocean. The ocean was his favorite place to be, whether he was swimming, fishing, clamming, or crabbing.

Scott more than enjoyed the simplicities of life. His family fulfilled him, especially his children whom he was extremely proud of.

Heaven has called upon you today leaving so many words left to say. But it’s too late, your time has come words unspoken: I’m sure everyone has some.

Regrets and wishes are probably there too, but lasting forever are memories of you. We were there when you needed a place to stay. Just like you’d be there for us night or day. There have been many times we disagreed, but we were there for each other in time of need. Now it’s time for us to say goodbye, until we meet again in heaven to fly.

A funeral service will be held in Scott’s memory in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, Edgartown Road, Oak Bluffs on Saturday, January 11, at 10 am. Burial of his cremains will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, State Road, Vineyard Haven. A reception will be held in the P-A Club; please bring a dish to share. A seaside burial of his cremains will be held at a later date, to be announced; all are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the MV Hospital, PO Box 1477, Oak Bluffs, MA 02557 or to the Vineyard House, PO Box 4599, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568.
