Josh Aronie of Chilmark got unanimous approval from the Chilmark selectmen Tuesday evening to operate a seasonal food truck in the parking lot of the Chilmark Store at Beetlebung Corner this winter. Several people at the meeting tried to place orders before the vote was taken, according to Mr. Aronie, the former owner of the Menemsha Café and current chef at Café Moxie in Vineyard Haven, now closed for the season.

He told The Times he expects to return to Café Moxie in the spring.

Mr. Aronie is subleasing Peter Simon’s “Irie Bites” mobile food truck, which Mr. Simon runs during the summer months. Mr. Aronie said the truck will be open from 10:30 am until 2 pm, Monday through Friday, and may open as early as January 20, once he passes a board of health inspection.

The new venture, called “The Food Truck,” will offer a short menu of hot soups, falafels, a taco of the day, and hot sandwiches with vegetarian and gluten-free options. Mr. Aronie said the menu will be subject to change.

  1. Can’t wait to get going. Just a few more meetings to get the go ahead. Also want to thank the Chilmark General Store for allowing us to park in front. For updates follow us on twitter @thefoodtruckmv and I’ll be setting up Facebook today.

  2. Josh is one of the Island’s best chefs. We are blessed to have him back in Chilmark this winter! Melody and I hope to reopen “Irie Bites” next summer in VH (where we are welcomed), after taking last summer off ( except for a few special occasions)…stay tuned!
