The driver of a 2001 Suzuki Esteem drove through a stop sign at the end of Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road Saturday afternoon and struck a stone retaining wall.

Tisbury police cited a Vineyard Haven driver after she drove through a stop sign early Saturday afternoon at the intersection of State Road and Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road, drove across State Road and slammed into a stone retaining wall, which has seen its share of repairs.

Tisbury Police lieutenant Eerik Meisner said Ann Hearn, 73, of Vineyard Haven was driving a 2001 Suzuki Esteem with one passenger in the car when she failed to stop at the stop sign. She said she thought she was hitting the brake, Lieutenant Meisner told The Times.

A driver in a Volvo station wagon traveling west on State Road struck the Suzuki. Police and EMTs arrived just after the first report of the accident at 12:23 pm. Ms. Hearn was transported to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital.

Lieutenant Meisner said police would summons Ms. Hearn on charges of failure to stop at a stop sign and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

How come this accident makes the paper, but the WT police officer that crashed his car Thursday night in Edgartown didn’t make the news?
