Stan Dutton sets state deadlift record

Stan Dutton, 21, from Vineyard Haven, now living in Jamaica Plain, set a new state record January 11 at the New England Open Powerlifting Championship held in Holliston. Stan competed in the 20- to 23-year-old age group and 165 pound weight class. The record for the deadlift, in which the contestant bends, partially squats, then lifts the loaded barbell up from the floor until in a standing position, was 465 pounds for his division. Stan broke the record on his second lift, then set a new record of 529.1 pounds on his third lift.

Mr. Dutton is 2010 graduate of the MVRHS, earned a second-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do at Strictly-All-Contact (now Blitz Fitness), and worked at the YMCA for a year as a trainer.
