The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School swim teams faced Pope John Paul II of Hyannis Monday at the YMCA pool. The boys recorded their first win in two years as a varsity program, 72-21, while the girls lost a close meet 96-68. The girls got their first win last year against Coyle Cassidy.

“I thought we had some really good swims, both the boys and the girls,” coach Jonathan Chatinover said. “We were missing a few girls due to injury. The meet would have really been a toss-up. They’re still making progress. We’re starting to think about the conference championship and qualifying for the sectionals. I’m hoping in a couple of weeks to get everybody back and healthy.”

Freshman Patrick Best was a double winner in the 50- and 500-yard Freestyles, setting a school record in the 500 with a time of 5:34.73. Other boys winners were Nevin Wallis (200 Free), Tucker Cosgrove (100 Butterfly), and Raz Sayre (100 Breaststroke).
