Martha’s Vineyard boys ice Shamrocks and Spartans

The Vineyard boys varsity hockey team skated to a pair of lopsided Eastern Athletic Conference wins in a 24 hour span Friday and Saturday at the MV Arena.

The Vineyarders shutout Bishop Feehan 5-0 Saturday afternoon, improving to 7-1-1 overall and 3-0 in the EAC. The Shamrocks fell to 6-3, 2-2 EAC.

Brian Fraser tallied twice and added an assist, while Tyson Araujo had a goal and three assists. Tristan Araujo and Alexander Vukota also scored for the Vineyarders. Emerson Mahoney, Andrew Carroll, and Matt Davies each had one assist. Wyatt Jenkinson stopped 14 shots to earn the shutout in net. The Vineyarders had 35 shots on goal.

Friday, the Vineyarders broke open a 1-1 tie with six second period goals in a six minute span en route to an 8-2 win over Bishop Stang.

Tyson Araujo notched a hat trick and Austin Morley scored twice. Alexander Vukota, Tristan Araujo, and Joe Davies also lit the lamp for the Vineyarders. Brian Fraser had three assists; Andrew Carroll, Andrew Wiley, Emerson Mahoney and Alexander Vukota each assisted twice; Austin Morley, Joshua Forend and Jonas Lukowitz had one assist apiece. The Vineyarders outshot the Spartans 21-2 in the decisive second period and 44-11 for the game.

The Vineyard icemen skate Monday at Dennis-Yarmouth, Wednesday at Somerset Berkley, and host powerful Division 1 Framingham Saturday, January 25 at 6 pm.
