Beatie Crume Lamb died on Tuesday, January 14, 2014. He was 92.
Mr. Lamb was born to Beatie and Ola on June 21, 1921 in Brooksville, Fla.
After attending the University of Florida, he served his country during World War II on Navy tender ships in the North Atlantic. Upon his return to civilian life he married Augustina (Tina) Frank on December 29, 1944, and took up residence on Martha’s Vineyard, where they stayed for the next 20 years. It was there he started employment with AT&T, where he stayed for the next 30 years on Martha’s Vineyard and Taunton. During this time, he and Mrs. Lamb became avid golfers and travelled the world. They visited Pinehurst many times during their travels and, upon retirement, moved to Southern Pines, N.C., in 1985. They enjoyed golf well into their later years.
Mr. Lamb was active in the local Masonic Lodge and he was a Shriner, having particular interest in the Shriner’s Crippled Children’s Hospitals, to which he volunteered much time. A faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Southern Pines, Mr. Lamb served as usher coordinator for many years.
Mr. Lamb was preceded in death by his wife on November 12, 2013. He is survived by 15 nieces and nephews and two in laws.
A memorial service was held on January 19 at the First Baptist Church of Southern Pines. The burial of his cremains will take place on Martha’s Vineyard at a date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be given to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, ℅ Moore County Shrine Club, PO Box 5264, Pinehurst, NC 28374 and/or the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
