The Vineyard Squirt 2 hockey team trounced host Taunton, 8-0, Sunday. Jake Cleland opened up the scoring 30 seconds into the game, deking the goalie and whistling the puck high into the mesh. The teams traded shots the rest of the first period with Riley Sylvia coming up big in the Vineyard with several stops.
Cleland potted a second goal one minute into the middle stanza. Julia Murray then made the score 3-0, finishing off a goalmouth scrum, and she added another goal four minutes later. Charlie Lakis assisted on both goals and scored one of his own by poking in a rebound for a 5-0 Vineyard lead. Kaleb Hatt rifled in a 30-footer to make it 6-0. Jack Walsh closed out the scoring with a brace of goals to go with three earlier assists. His twin brother Alex and Julia Murray each had two assists.
Vineyard player Cam Geary earned an assist of a different kind by stepping in to run the scoreboard for the absent scorekeeper.
