The Interscholastic basketball finals have long been one of the Island’s signature winter sporting events. The girls and boys championship games are set for Monday afternoon at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School.
The girls tip off first, at 5:30 pm, with the Edgartown Eagles taking on the Oak Bluffs Blazers. Immediately following the girls game, the Eagle boys square off against the Tisbury Tigers. In the event of inclement weather, the games will be moved ahead to Tuesday afternoon at the Oak Bluffs School. The times have yet to be determined.
Both the Edgartown girls and boys rolled to lopsided victories in the semifinals, over Tisbury and the Charter School, respectively. The Charter Chargers, finalists a year ago, were missing key player Ricardo Andrade due to injury.
Tuesday in Tisbury, the Tiger boys defeated the West Tisbury Hawks, 66-25. Cole Houston scored 27 for Tisbury and Dylan Dyke added 19 more.
The Oak Bluffs girls got 30 points from Molly deBettencourt and punched their ticket to the final with a 42-20 win over visiting West Tisbury last Friday.
