Bulls claim top seed for RCBL playoffs


The Bulls bounced back from a pair of losses with an 82-75 win over the Lakers Monday night in Edgartown, clinching the top spot in the RCBL regular season standings and the number one seed in the upcoming playoffs.

Brant Silvia closed out the game with three consecutive treys to finish with 35 points, leading the Bulls (8-4). Ben Ford scored 18 points, followed by Jared Silvia (15) and Anthony Johnson (11). Heath Estrella led the Lakers (5-7) and all scorers with 36. John Healy added 12, while Pat Rolston, Sterling Bishop, and Damon Mello each had 10.

The Heat finished up the regular season in second place with a 103-93 win over the Suns. Tim Scott drained five three-pointers in the first quarter as the Heat (7-5) jumped out to a 33-21 lead. Nick Viera scored 34 points to pace the Heat. Tim Scott finished with 20 on the night, Lucas Brewer had 19, Sandy Fisher 16, and Luke Bettencourt 12. Jade Cash had the hot hand for the Suns with 30 points. Matt Brown (15), Paul Linderson (13), James Holenko (11), and Mike Baptiste (10) also scored in double figures for the Suns (4-8).

The best of three playoff semifinals get under way Monday at the Boys and Girls Club in Edgartown. The top-seeded Bulls tip off against the fourth-seeded defending champion Suns at 6:15 pm, followed by the second-seeded Heat against the third-seeded Lakers at 8. The teams are off during school vacation week and return for game two on March 3. If necessary, a third and deciding game would be played March 10. The best of three finals start either March 10 or 17.
