MV boys lose hoops rematch with Danvers

The Vineyard boys varsity basketball team traveled to Danvers Sunday for a rematch with the two-time defending MIAA state Division 3 champs. They proved to be gracious guests in an error-prone 62-45 defeat.

The Vineyarders, who committed 25 turnovers in the loss, fell to 12-3. The Purple also shot only 30 percent from the floor.

The teams met in last year’s state semifinals at the TD Garden in Boston. Danvers won a squeaker, 50-47. This time, however, the

Falcons (13-2) flew away with a big early lead and never looked back.

Deshawn James led M.V. with 20 points and Tim Roberts added 12. The Vineyarders and Falcons meet again on Saturday at the Sancy in Oak Bluffs. The game tips off at 5:30 pm, preceded by the jayvee contest at 4 pm.
