Blizzard forecast forces high school sports postponements

The impending snowstorm has prompted postponements for several scheduled high school hockey and basketball games.

The girls hockey contest against North Quincy, scheduled for 1 pm today, is postponed.

The boys basketball matchup with defending state champion Danvers, scheduled for 5:30 pm tonight, is rescheduled to 2 pm Sunday afternoon.

The girls basketball game, scheduled for 7 pm tonight against Sabis International Charter School is rescheduled to next Thursday, February 20, at 3 pm.

The Fairleigh Dickinson Hockey Tournament is scheduled to proceed on schedule. The visiting teams arrived on the Island ahead of the storm. Dennis-Yarmouth is scheduled to play Westwood at 5 pm, and Lynnfield takes on Martha’s Vineyard at 7 pm.

The consolation game is scheduled Sunday at 1 pm, and the championship game is set for 3 pm, at the Martha’s Vineyard Arena.

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning effective at 7 pm tonight, through 5 am Sunday morning.
