Safety compromised in SSA parking lots

To the Editor:

I am writing this letter because many complaints throughout the winter from many commuters like me have fallen on deaf ears at the Steamship Authority.

The boatline’s mainland parking lots that we are told we must park in are so dangerous, and without four-wheel drive, many have serious issues getting in and out. There has been little to no attempt to clear the lot, never mind no sand or salt, it is just slick and extremely dangerous. The attitude I have received from the staff is that, because they are a private union, they can get away with substandard public safety concerns.

There is no reason that we should be struggling with these awful conditions several days after a storm, and especially when being charged $10 a day to do so. A woman right in front of me fell and smashed her knee yesterday, but was too embarrassed to say anything.

Please call them out on their negligent behavior toward public safety, before someone is seriously hurt. And they can’t even keep up with the sidewalks on their own real estate.
