Kathryn Goodman of Tisbury died on Saturday, February 22. She was 72.

Known to friends as Tottie, Kathryn first came to the Vineyard with her parents, Jean and Weir Goodman, and was part of the West Chop summer community. She returned to the Vineyard every summer until she became a year-round resident many years ago. She loved the Vineyard summers and her childhood friends Kathy Fuller, The Morse twins, Pat and Lin, Patty Reese Vanderwalker, and many others.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Tottie attended Westover School. Although she lived in and traveled many places over the years, the Vineyard was always home in her heart and she loved the time she had as a resident of the Vineyard community, to which she contributed in so many ways. Her support of and contributions to the Vineyard recovery community are well-known, although she always preferred to be under the radar with her generosity. The MSPCA, Hospice, Cancer Support Group, MV Center for Living, and the Gay Head Light all benefited from Tottie’s interest and generosity. Off-Island projects she was involved in with her brother were Adam’s Camp Nantucket and Children’s Health Fund based in New York City. She was always ready and willing to lend a hand in so many causes, and she helped so many friends — too numerous to mention.

Tottie is survived by her daughter, Adele Ford; her brother, Tim Goodman; her sister, Jean McIntosh; her nieces, Hays Blinkmann, Buffy Trott Hanschka, Leah Wright, and Micheli Lynn; her cousins, Harvey, Emerson, and Margaret Knowles; and her dearest of friends, David Dreyfoos and Rosemarie Roberts.

A service will be held for Tottie at Grace Church in Vineyard Haven at 1 pm on Sunday, March 9. Food and refreshments will follow, so hopefully all will stay and celebrate Tottie’s life.
