Tisbury selectmen will consider parking fine increase

The Tisbury selectmen will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, March 25, to discuss raising the town’s overtime parking ticket fine from $15 to $25. Police Chief Daniel Hanavan requested the increase.

“I think $15 is a little low; it doesn’t discourage people from leaving their cars parked in the same spot in town all day long,” Chief Hanavan told selectmen Tuesday night. “I checked in with Oak Bluffs and Edgartown, and Oak Bluffs’s fine is $20 and Edgartown’s is $30.”

Chief Hanavan suggested Tisbury selectmen hold a public hearing to discuss his recommended increase to $25. Selectmen approved a date but did not set a time yet.
