Oak Bluffs: New neighbors and a fish fry

Megan-AlleyRemember, back in the day when we used to excitedly say “quick look out the window, it’s snowing!”

Now we look out and say, “Oh no: not again!” Just when you think the scary part is over, it starts snowing again. Hopefully after this week we will not see it again until next December.

We should all be very proud of the MVRHS boys’ basketball team. They have had a great season and won their first game of the State Championship only to lose the second game by one point in an overtime session. Thank you, guys, for working so hard and providing some excitement during this long somewhat dreary winter.

Welcome to new Oak Bluffs resident Bonnie Josephs. Bonnie is thrilled to finally becoming a year-round resident on the Vineyard. She recently moved to Beacon Avenue, which means she is my neighbor. Glad to have you near and know you will enjoy our town.

I am giving you a heads-up for the next fish fry at the P-A Club. It will take place on March 27 at 5 pm, so mark your calendars. There will be another reminder before the 27th.

Come celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in a tasty manner at the Annual Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner at the First Baptist Church Parish House in Vineyard Haven. The dinner takes place on March 15 at 5:30 pm and includes beverage and dessert. The suggested donation is $12, and for more information, call 508 693-1539.

On Saturday, March 22, the West Tisbury Public Library begins a new chapter. At 10 am the doors will reopen and the public will be invited to celebrate the completion of the $6 million expansion program begun in 2010. There will be a ribbon cutting, refreshments, speeches and music but the centerpiece will be a new library facility that nearly everyone in the town, in one way or another, has had a hand in shaping.

Ginny Hall is very proud of her grandsons’ Myles and Lucas Holt accomplishments in indoor track this season at Natick High School. They have both won several track meets and Myles is the 2014 Bay State League Champion in the 100 meters. The boys are the twin sons of Heather and Leon Holt, and besides being winners on the track, they are also on the high school honor roll.

The Memory Café at Windemere, which was launched last month, was a great success. So it is being planned for the 3rd Friday of each month. This month it will take place on Friday, March 21, from 3:30 to 4:30 pm. This is an opportunity to socialize, enjoy light entertainment with Michael Haydn on the piano, and down some refreshments.  No RSVP is required and there is no cost. Please join us!
