Emotional about the Hall holdings

To the Editor:

I’m crying a river for the Hall family, which has $40 million in property and not a penny to maintain it. The Island Theatre, the Halls say, is “beyond repair.” Might that be because they never repaired it? We’re also told the Halls are “preservationist.” Which I guess means preserving buildings in such a state of neglect that they’ll soon fall down.

Simple suggestion. If you’re unable or unwilling to maintain the Capawock, Island, and other treasures, sell them to people who are. You’ll still have plenty of other property to run into the ground.

I am tired of this family, they have no respect for the island or themselves.

As long as the property values continue to rise and the costs stay fairly stable (taxes remain low in Edgartown especially)…yes…there’s little reason to sell.
