To the Editor:
After reading the Stop & Shop article in the March 27 issue, I believe that the various town and Island entities that have worked on this project are to be congratulated for their hard work and patience.
The main issues are traffic/parking and size.
Nowhere in the article do I hear of a reduction in the overall square footage for this project. It is just too big — we don’t need a mega-mart — we do need a new and somewhat larger supermarket.
The Stop & Shop corporate reps have obfuscated this main issue by talking about everything else — landscaping, moving the historic property, parking, hockey sponsorship, etc. It’s all important, but again, they’re hiding the main issue, which is that their building plan is just too large. (Thanks to Nevin Sayre for stating this.)
