M.V. sweeps Randolph in baseball twinbill


The Vineyard varsity baseball team bounced back from a 3-2 opening day loss at Bourne April 2 to sweep host Randolph. 10-0 and 17-3. Saturday afternoon.

Tim Roberts allowed two hits and struck out five to pick up the win in game one. He also tormented the Blue Devils offensively with two hits, two stolen bases, and two runs scored. Mitchell Chaves had two hits and four RBIs. Mikey Mussell was 2 for 3.

In game two, Roberts, Mussell, and Jack Slayton had two hits apiece, while Silas Berlin went 2 for 3 with three runs scored. Starter Chris Mayhew conceded three runs on four hits, striking out four in three innings of work. Jacob Cardoza fanned five in two innings of relief.

The Vineyarders played their home opener Wednesday afternoon in an Eastern Athletic Conference game against Bishop Stang.
