The girls tennis team rolled to a 5-0 win over host Pope John Paul II Monday in Hyannis.
The Vineyarders (2-4) won each of the five matches in straight sets. Samantha Potter defeated Lexi Cornwall, 6-0, 6-1, at first singles, Josie Iadicicco toughed out a 7-5, 7-5 decision over Haylee Whitely at second singles, and Charlotte Potter bested Emily Consano, 6-4, 6-1, at third singles. The first doubles pair of Diamond Araujo and Avery Hazell were 6-1, 6-1 winners over Emily Santos and Nina Cappini. Amandine Muniz and Madison McBride completed the Vineyard sweep with a 6-4, 6-3 win at second doubles.
The win was welcome relief after a pair of 4-1 home defeats, Friday against Eastern Athletic Conference rival Bishop Feehan and Saturday to tough non-league foe Ursuline Academy of Dedham. Sam Potter earned both Vineyard points. She defeated Margaret dePont of Bishop Feehan 6-0, 6-0 and Sara Curtis of Ursuline 6-1, 6-1.
The girls claimed their first victory of the season on April 9 in North Dartmouth, with a 4-1 EAC win over Bishop Stang.
The Vineyarders hosted Somerset Berkley in an EAC match April 16. The next home match is on May 2 at 3 pm against Bishop Stang.
