Trevor J. Medeiros, 21, formerly of Vineyard Haven, pleaded guilty in Dukes County Superior Court on April 14 to two counts of raping a  child.

Associate Justice Tina S. Page sentenced Mr. Medeiros to 2.5 to 4 years in state prison on the first count of rape, and four years of probation with strict conditions on the second charge of rape, as part of a plea agreement. Judge Page ordered probation to begin after Mr. Medeiros is released from prison.

Mr. Medeiros must comply with a long list of restrictions as part of his probation, according to court records. He must wear an electronic monitoring device that transmits his location to probation officials at all times. He must register as a sex offender, submit to random drug and alcohol screening, and have no direct or indirect contact with the victim or her family.

The incidents happened in July of 2012, at Owen Park in Vineyard Haven. Mr. Medeiros was 20 at the time of the crime. The victim was under the age of 16.
