Linda Jean’s restaurant, a popular family eatery on Circuit Avenue, will soon be serving beer and wine. Owner Mark Hanover received unanimous approval for a year-round beer and wine license from the Oak Bluffs selectmen at a special hearing Tuesday night.

“My only question is what took you so long?” joked selectman Walter Vail. “The times have caught up and people want beer and wine with dinner and sometimes at lunch,” said Mr. Hanover, proprietor for the past 38 years. “I never wanted to deal with it, but people have requested it.”

Robert Clermont, general manager of the Martha’s Vineyard Camp Meeting Association (MVCMA) attended the selectmen’s meeting to voice MVCMA support. “The hours won’t change, the noise won’t increase and neither will the traffic,” he said.

“As long as you have Campground support, we’re in favor,” selectman Greg Coogan said.

In a conversation with The Times on Wednesday, Mr. Hanover said the restaurant will start serving beer and wine in about a month, after the state board has given final approval to his application.
