A newly constructed treehouse received a warm welcome Friday at the Garden Gate Child Development Center on West Spring Street in Vineyard Haven.

The kids got to test out their new house at a dedication and thank-you party attended by several of those who had dedicated time, energy, and supplies to the community project.

Garden Gate co-director Leigh Ann Yuen told The Times that the project began last summer when the kids were asked to imagine what a new treehouse might look like. Parent Kyle Gatchell took their ideas and turned them into a design. “It was really a big community effort in terms of how all the parts came together,” she said.
