Happy mother’s day, from Aquinnah

Mother’s Day is of course this Sunday and Chilmark Chocolates will be open regular hours this week, Thursday–Sunday, 11:30 am to 5:30 pm. The gift shops on the Cliffs will also be open, so do the right thing, dads and kids, and get the mom in your life a gift. You could also give her a day off, an always welcome gift in my household.

Now that I am a mom I love Mother’s Day and welcome it every year, but I also know that it can be a hard day for mothers who have lost children or for children who have lost their moms. I have no great words of wisdom on this subject, but I know that there are many people in our community that fit this profile and I want to let them know that I will be thinking of them as well on Mother’s Day and hoping that they know they are not alone.

At the library this weekend on Saturday from 12 noon to 2 pm the craft will be “Mugs for Mothers.” At 2 pm there will be a tea party for moms, fancy hats encouraged. On Saturday, May 24, at noon come get your hands dirty at the library and help plant a pizza garden that will result in a pizza party in August.

The Minnesingers’ spring concert is this weekend in the Performing Arts Center at the high school. They will perform on Saturday at 7 pm and Sunday at 3 pm, and of course they will be led by Aquinnah’s own Jan Wightman.

Aquinnah has some new grandparents; Kayla Manning, daughter of Paul Manning, step-daughter of Theresa Manning, and granddaughter of June Manning, gave birth to a healthy baby girl one month prior to her due date. Three-pound, 15-ounce Kylee Rose was born at 8:45 pm on April 29. Paul went out to Michigan to see his new granddaughter for a few days, and if all goes according to plan mom and baby will be relocating here soon. Congratulations to everyone and I can’t wait to meet the new baby.
