Hope for future generations

To the Editor:

We at Island Grown Schools are deeply grateful to Kevin and Suzanna Crowell for their overwhelming generosity in hosting last weekend’s high school garden fundraiser at the Sweet Life Café (Spring Garden Feast for Thriving High School Garden). We are humbled by their openness to our organization and the MVRHS Culinary Arts students, and the time and energy they offered in putting this spectacular night together.

The elaborate five-course meal was beyond what we could have imagined, and the experience for the students and all of us was truly empowering. Together we were able to raise almost $4,000 for the MVRHS garden, all of which will go to seeds, soil, and tools to continue to grow the Island’s future farmers, chefs, and the next generation of healthy eaters.

Thank you to our farmers, fishermen and food producers who offered their amazing products for the meal: MV Sea Salt, Thimble Farm, FARM Institute, North Tabor Farm, Mermaid Farm, Not Your Sugar Mamas, Anson Mills, and particularly the Menemsha Fish House.

And as if this fundraiser wasn’t enough, Kevin and Suzanna have now begun an incredible Thursday supper series at Détente, which supports Island Grown Schools programs.

We feel so fortunate to be a part of this supportive community, whose encouragement gives us all hope for our future generations.
