Girls tennis team clinches playoff berth

The girls tennis team clinched a berth in the MIAA state Division 3 tournament with a 3-2 win over Cape Cod Academy Monday in Oak Bluffs. Samantha Potter and Charlotte Potter won at first and third singles, respectively, while Madison McBride and Amadine Muniz prevailed at second doubles.

The Vineyarders (8-7) finished up the regular season on Wednesday, May 21, at Notre Dame in Hingham.

Sam Potter falls in semis of state individual tourney

Martha’s Vineyard first singles player Samantha Potter reached the second weekend of play in the South sectionals of the Massachusetts State Individual Tournament played May 17-18 at Old Rochester Regional High School in Mattapoisett, losing in the semifinals to Emma Davis, the defending state champ. Sam defeated Alexandra Dadoly of Nauset, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5), in the quarterfinals.

In the first weekend of play, Sam defeated Sarah Buck of Bourne, 6-1, 6-0; Carly Donovan of Monomoy, 6-0, 6-0; and Maggie Pedicini of Barnstable, 6-4, 7-6 (6-2).
