The 15th-seeded Vineyard girls tennis team, their roster depleted by injuries and honors night, traveled to face longtime nemesis Cohasset in the MIAA State Division 3 South Sectional opener on May 29. The Vineyarders lost to the second-seeded Skippers, 5-0. Cohasset now has eliminated M.V. for the past three seasons. Last year the teams played a 3-2 thriller in the sectional quarterfinals.

The Purple were without starters Samantha Potter (first singles), Charlotte Potter (third singles), and the first doubles tandem of Diamond Araujo and Avery Hazell. Josie Iadicicco moved up to first singles and lost to state individual champ Emma Davis. Freshman Madison McBride left her traditional second doubles spot for second singles and lost to Emily Livingstone. Caroline Van Etten topped Alison Daigle at third singles. Gabrielle Lemoine and Bri Clough defeated Amadine Muniz and Chaniporn Eksiri at first doubles; while Clara Baumgarten and Ryan Spicer were victorious over Charlotte Hammond and Ellie O’ Callahan at second doubles.
