The South Coast Soccer League regular season is winding down. The girls and boys MV United Under-14 Division 2 travel soccer teams played their final matches over the weekend. The girls hosted Bourne Saturday at Veterans Park and won, 3-0. Sunday, M.V. drew, 0-0, at Dartmouth to finish the season in second place at 6-1-1. The boys also placed second in the league with seven wins and a draw after defeating host Fall River, 2-1, on Saturday.
In other SCSL play, the Under-18 boys routed visiting Nantucket, 6-1, Sunday. The U-18s, in first place with six wins and a draw, close out the regular season Saturday (4:15 pm kickoff) at home to Yarmouth-Dennis.
The second place U-15 boys were off last weekend. United travels to Nantucket Saturday and hosts Dartmouth in the regular season finale June 15 at 12:30 pm.
The boys U-12 Hammers suffered their first loss of the season, 2-0, to top of the table Norton on a windy sunny Saturday afternoon at Veterans Park. After a tense opening 10 minutes, Norton opened up the score following some sloppy defending by the home side. After the halftime break, with the wind at their backs, the Vineyard tried to level the game, but Norton scored the insurance goal in the 38th minute.
The Hammers are currently fifth with a record of 4-1-1 and meet their Vineyard U-12 brethren the Blues at Veterans Park on June 5 at 5 pm. The Hammers travel to Dighton-Rehoboth on June 7.
The Blues won their second straight match with a 3-2 victory over Sandwich Saturday at Veterans Park. The Blues are 2-4 and finish up against the Hammers and away to Dartmouth on June 7.
The girls U-16 team improved to 4-1-1 (3rd place) with a 3-0 win over visiting Falmouth on Sunday. The girls U-11 Shockers downed Taunton 4-2 Saturday at home. The Shockers are 3-4 and finish the season at Sandwich June 7.
