Lorraine (Irene) Kohler Russell of Oak Bluffs died peacefully on July 29, 2013, at Windemere Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was 94.
Lorraine was born on September 1, 1918, to Jacob and Jessie Kohler of Bayonne, N.J.
In 1947, Lorraine met and married Irving G. Russell at a Public Service picnic where she worked in New Jersey. After living in Los Angeles area for a few years, they moved back to the East Coast and settled in Westport, Conn., where Irving worked for Time & Life Magazine.
After raising their children, Lorraine worked at AVI Publishing Company in Westport for a few years before retirement. In 1987 they moved to Irving’s childhood summer playground on Martha’s Vineyard where Lorraine found wonderful friendships while participating in Circle of Friends and the West Tisbury Congregational Church, the Vineyard Garden Club, golfing, and volunteering at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Irving, and she is survived by her three children: Steve, Nancy, and David and two grandchildren, Morgan and Jack Russell.
She is fondly remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and warm, friendly nature.
