Like to kayak? Paddle board? Improve water quality? Help Island farmers? The MV Water Alliance, MV Shellfish Group, and the Lagoon Pond Association will sponsor the 2nd annual Seaweed Harvest on Lagoon Pond Road, Vineyard Haven, Saturday, June 14, from 1 to 3 pm. The nitrogen-fed crop on Muddy Cove will be harvested with boats and flotation devices provided by Island Water Sports, and then used to nourish Island farm compost piles, according to a press release.

Last Saturday, volunteers conducted a mini-harvest and gathered a mountain of seaweed, delivered to Mermaid Farm by the MV Shellfish Group’s water biologist Emma Green-Beach.

It is recommended that volunteers for the larger harvest bring sun protection and water, as well as a milk crate and a muck rake.
