The Chilmark 5K Road Race, now in its 37th year, will be Saturday, August 9, at 10:30 am. The town limits the number of runners but has agreed to raise the ceiling of the popular event.
“This year they agreed to raise it by 100 to 1,600, but we still will have to turn people away,” said Hugh Weisman in an email to runners. “We hate to do it. We’d love to have you, but we just can’t accommodate everyone. So if you want to run, you should get your entries in as soon as you can. Last year registration closed on July 12!”
All entries are online at coolrunning.com/major/14/chilmark/index.html. Registration opened on Wednesday, June 25. No mail-in entries will be accepted.
“If you enter after August 2, if by some unlikely chance registration is still open, you will pay more,” Mr. Weisman said. “We do that to encourage you to get your entries in early and, unabashedly, to raise a little more money for the [Chilmark] Community Center from those that procrastinate. Entries close at midnight, August 7, or most assuredly earlier if we are full.”
