The humorous author and National Public Radio (NPR) contributor David Sedaris will make his Island debut this August with two shows that are sure to contain the wit and ironic insight that pepper each of his works.

After an upbringing in a family of six in North Carolina, a hitchhiking journey across the country, and quirky jobs like apple picking, apartment cleaning, and posing as one of Santa’s elves in Macy’s, Mr. Sedaris has gained a knack for sardonic social critique that he uses to relay his experiences. He has written several novels including “When You Are Engulfed in Flames,” “Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary,” and “Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls.” He was named Humorist of the Year by Time Magazine in 2001 and received the Thurber Prize for American Humor for his scintillating NPR Morning Edition commentaries.

Mr. Sedaris will speak at the Performing Arts Center on August 2 at 1 pm and in a nearly sold-out show at the Old Whaling Church at 8 pm. Tickets are available online at davidsedarisontour.com.
