Margaret “Mardie” Leather died on Thursday, August 14, in the Worcester area. She was 92.
Born in Malone, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Royal and Genevieve (Rozon) Gibbo. Mardie attended Alfred University for ceramic design and taught art in the Albany school system.
She was a very active volunteer, sharing her time and talents with the Historical Society of Early American Decoration, the American Institute of History and Art, the State Museum of Albany and St. Thomas the Apostle Church. She also enjoyed traveling and spending summer vacations at Chateaugay Lake. She lived in Woodside Village in Oak Bluffs from 2010 to 2013.
Survivors include her husband, Robert P. Leather, MD; her children, Jonathan M. Leather, Catherine Klein, Gregory P. Leather, and Geoffrey T. Leather; grandchildren Kathleen Leather Engle, Stephen and Fiona Leather, Heather and Amanda Klein, and David and Allison Leather; and great-grandchildren Simon, Graham, and Adalaide Engle.
She was predeceased by a brother, Royal “Bud” Gibbo.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, August 20, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Delmar, N.Y. Burial was in Notre Dame Cemetery in Malone.
