The Oak Bluffs water district (OBWD) has announced that the biannual hydrant flushing program will begin on Monday, September 15. The flushing is done to remove accumulated sediment in the water mains. Flushing will run Monday through Friday, from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm and is expected to take four to six weeks to complete.
Customers may see discoloration of their water while flushing occurs near their home. If this happens, they should wait until the work in the area is done and then run cold water for several minutes until it clears up, according to an OBWD press release. Customers are also advised to check their water for discoloration prior to washing laundry. They may experience a drop in pressure while nearby hydrants are flowing, but they should not lose all pressure.
People with questions or concerns can call the OBWD office at 508-693-5527.
