The Center for New Learning Martha’s Vineyard (CNL MV) is a new, Island-grown supplemental education center. According to a press release, the CNL MV will offer one-on-one instruction to best suit students’ individual learning styles. Areas of instruction include math (enrichment and grade-level), reading, writing, English/ELL/ESL, foreign languages, SAT/ACT/AP/HiSET test prep, college application assistance, and online course assistance. Instructors are selected from the abundance of highly educated people living on Martha’s Vineyard, and include university professors, certified education specialists, and other educated and experienced teaching professionals.

Founder Alice Kyburg has a Ph.D. in cognitive science from the University of Rochester and an M.Ed. in middle and high school math education from UMass Amherst. She is Massachusetts-certified for high school math and English as a second language. Alice has taught at the University of Wisconsin for 20 years. She is now an Island resident, living in West Tisbury, and the mother of 11-year-old twins. Her husband is a partner at Gannon & Benjamin Marine Railway in Vineyard Haven.

While CNL MV works toward nonprofit status, it will offer sliding-scale rates for 10-plus hours of commitment.

The  grand opening of CNL MV is Saturday, Jan. 31 in the Fly Yoga/Yoga Haven building on State Road in Vineyard Haven, just past the Black Dog Bakery. For information call  920-410-4577; cnlmv.org or write Alice Kyburg at kyburg@uwosh.edu.
