Not a good location

To the Editor:

My name is Chris Hall, and I own a home at 9 Pacific Avenue in Oak Bluffs. I was just stunned to learn that there is a new park and ride proposed for a lot off Pacific Avenue in Oak Bluffs.

Pacific Avenue is already inundated with traffic from buses and taxis, as it’s a cut-through street. In addition, many drivers have total disregard for speed laws. In recent years, several families have moved in with children, and the speed presents a danger. This will only increase with this new lot.

I was equally stunned when I viewed the plan, and town officials stated there would be minimal impact as this is already a bus route. Yes, it is, but the lot is inactive at best, and all the spaces being utilized by park-and-riders will lead to an increase in traffic. It’s impossible not to. Finally, the effects of light pollution, trash, volume, intoxicated people, all will lead to a general increase in activity that is unacceptable for a neighborhood like this. Why can’t the town utilize a space like the landfill, as they do in Vineyard Haven, and put a park and ride near the landfill in Oak Bluffs?

Please help preserve a neighborhood that has been transitioning in recent years, and has many children.
