SSA urged to amp up

To the Editor:

The Commonwealth has just announced a $1.4 million grant to provide 50 percent of the cost of installing electric vehicle (EV) charging stations on commercial sites. This is a great opportunity for the Steamship Authority to support those who bring such vehicles to the Island.

Almost all EVs are fully discharged by the time they arrive at the ferry dock in Woods Hole. Having one or two charging stations would allow drivers to recharge their vehicles, at least sufficiently to get them to their Island destination. I hope other EV drivers will urge the Steamship Authority to look into this possibility quickly, as only 100 to 200 applications will be accepted.
