To the Editor:
Thanks to the late Dorothy Bangs for her decades of enthusiasm, organization, and
efforts toward raising money through selling bunches of daffodils to help ease the pain of a cancer diagnosis. The Martha’s Vineyard Cancer Support Group (MVCSG) continued that mission again this year on March 17.
It all started in the 1980s, when the American Cancer Society and Dorothy Bangs linked up for Daffodil Days. Many of Dorothy’s dedicated volunteers joined with the MVCSG this year to continue the fundraising tradition by selling bunches of daffodils. All money raised by the MVCSG stays on Martha’s Vineyard, providing temporary and emergency financial assistance to year-round Island cancer patients and their families.
The MVCSG would like to graciously thank those from the community who purchased the daffodil bunches, and all the volunteers who gave their time and helped to make this fundraiser a great success. We also want to thank Cronig’s Market in Vineyard Haven, Stop and Shop in Edgartown, Reliable Market in Oak Bluffs, and the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital for kindly letting us sell daffodils to the public.
Thank you for supporting Daffodil Days here on Martha’s Vineyard.
