Minnesingers grateful for tour of Spain

To the Editor:

Thanks to the diligent work of the Minnesingers Parent Group and the support of the Island community, the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School (MVRHS) Minnesingers enjoyed a very successful concert tour to southern Spain for 10 days in April. The 30 singers, accompanied by two student assistants, seven chaperones, and their director, Jan Wightman, performed four formal concerts in Seville, Cordoba, and Granada, and sang informally several times at venues such as the Plaza de España, the Alhambra, and the caves at Nerja. The Minnesingers and I want to thank the school administration, the school committee, and the community for supporting such foreign travel. It is truly an invaluable experience for these students, serving as ambassadors through music, to be given this opportunity.
