Vineyard jobless rate remains above national average

The New England Information Office of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has released Cape Cod and the Islands unemployment numbers for January 2015. This report uses data from the local area and unemployment statistics (LAUS) program, which produces monthly and annual employment, unemployment, and labor-force data for census regions and divisions, states, counties, metropolitan areas, and many cities, by place of residence, according to a press release.

Both Dukes and Nantucket Counties had rates above that for the United States, at 11.6 and 12.1 percent respectively.

Dukes County had an over-the-year rate increase of 0.2 percentage points in unemployment, while Nantucket’s rate was up 0.1 percentage point from January 2014.

The unemployment rates for Dukes County was unchanged from where it was three years earlier. The U.S. rate fell 2.7 points over the period.
