The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School varsity girls tennis team clinched the Eastern Athletic Conference (EAC) title conference title by going undefeated in their final conference match against Coyle and Cassidy on Wednesday, May 13. The Vineyard girls won the doubleheader, 5-0, 5-0.

All three first singles matches were won in straight sets; Samantha Potter, Lizzie Williamson and Charlotte Potter won 6-0, 6-0. In doubles, Avery Hazell and Madison McBride won 6-3, 6-0 while Amadine Muniz and Lia Potter won 6-1, 6-1.

In the second round of the doubleheader, the Vineyard squad defied all odds by defeating the same opponents by the same score.

Last Thursday, the ladies traveled off-Island to Saint John Paul II high school in Hyannis looking for another victory. The Vineyard girls won 3-2 in what was their closest matchup of the season. First singles Lizzie Williamson won 6-1, 6-3, as did third singles Lia Potter, who won 7-5, 4-6, 10-6. In doubles, Avery Hazell and Amadine Muniz won 6-2, 7-5. Four of the seven varsity players were unable to make it to the match, and their replacements, members of the junior varsity team, stepped in and stepped up.
