After a disappointing 9-8 lost to Fairhaven last Thursday, the girls’ varsity team got back on track with a big 12-8 win against Falmouth Tuesday. The team played well in the rain, coming out strong from the get-go. Amanda Bernard and Lee Hayman scored early, giving the Vineyard a lead they would not relinquish. After conceding a goal, Audrey McCarron scored two quick goals to put the Vineyarders up 4-1. Lee Hayman scored her second goal, then Sara Poggi netted after a brilliant pass from Aubrey Ashmun. The Vineyard went into halftime up 8-2.

The momentum shifted after halftime, with Falmouth outscoring the Vineyard in the half. Fortunately, it was not enough to defeat the Vineyarders. Sara Poggi scored a hat trick, and goalie Samantha Hargy made seven great saves in the win. The team is now 8-6 with three more home games remaining. Their season ends on Wednesday, May 27, when they travel to Bridgewater-Raynham.
