All are invited to the Chilmark United Methodist Community Church on Sunday, August 16, from 4 to 6 pm for a free presentation on developing the folk opera “1854,” which is produced under the aegis of the U.S. Slave Song Project. “1854” is about and inspired by the Vineyard’s mid-19th century abolitionist movement. Come hear about its creation, and get an inside look into how such a piece of musical theatre is developed. “1854” is supported by the MV NAACP, the Local Cultural Council (Massachusetts Cultural Council), the Permanent Endowment of Martha’s Vineyard, the Martha’s Vineyard Savings Bank, the Martha’s Vineyard Center for the Visual Arts, and the Mass. Humanities Foundation. For additional information, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
