Repairs completed, ferry Martha's Vineyard resumes service

With generator repairs completed, the Martha's Vineyard was returned to service Saturday night.

A long line of passengers waited at the Vineyard Haven terminal Friday to board the ferry Nantucket for her 4pm trip to Woods Hole.

The Steamship Authority announced this evening that the ferry Martha’s Vineyard, out of service since Friday due to mechanical problems, had resumed service beginning with her 7:30 pm, Saturday trip from Woods Hole to Vineyard Haven.

Wayne Lamson, SSA general manager, told The Times Friday there was problem with a generator on the Martha’s Vineyard. “We are in the process of finding spare parts,” Mr. Lamson said in an email to The Times Friday. “Repairs may not be completed until sometime tomorrow morning. In the meantime, we are running extra trips with the Nantucket and Sankaty tonight. The Island Home is also running.”
