All competition is relative, and while the Olympics attracted the big names, the competition was just as intense on Chappaquiddick where many of Martha’s Vineyard’s best ping-pong players squared off Sunday for the ninth annual all-Island Chappypong table tennis tournament, sponsored by the Chappaquiddick Community Center and Martha’s Vineyard Table Tennis Club (MVTTC).

Vineyard Haven’s Juri Luncar defeated runner-up Arman Akgonul of Strasbourg, France, in the championship match in straight games 3-0 to claim first place.

Mark Clements of Vineyard Haven took first place junior division honors in a close five-game championship match. He defeated runner-up Charlie Coughlin of Dedham.
