Gannon and Benjamin-designed schooners finish first in Maine classic

Two Island-built schooners finished first and second in their respective class in the 2016 Eggemoggin Reach Regatta, a favorite and well-attended annual race and event among classic wooden boat owners held in Brooklin, Maine.

Of the 12 boats that raced in the gaff and schooner class, the Gannon and Benjamin built/Nat Benjamin-designed 60-foot Rebecca (built in 2001) took first, and the 65-foot Juno (built in 2003), took second place on Saturday, August 6.

Rebecca, with owner and Captain Jesse Smith at the helm, had a corrected time of 2hrs:38min:59sec (elapsed time: 3:09:44).

Juno, with Skipper Scott DiBiaso and owner Robert Soros aboard, took second place with a corrected time of 2hrs:41min:52sec (elapsed time: 3:07:37).
