To the Editor:

Thank you to all who helped make the seventh annual Best Fest a rousing success. This year we had two 25-piece marching bands lead us in an hourlong parade around the heart of Oak Bluffs. Thank you to the Extraordinary Rendition Band, from Providence, R.I., and the Second Line Social Aid and Pleasure Society Brass Band, from Cambridge and Somerville. Well played, my friends.

Thank you to the Oak Bluffs Police Department for being so cooperative and keeping everyone safe. You do good work.

Thank you to the Oak Bluffs selectmen for your continued support and for encouraging our endeavors to keep things interesting downtown.

Thank you to everyone at the Ritz for keeping live music alive and helping us break the record for admissions.

Thank you to the members of the Hammerheads, the Taxidermists, Master Exploder, Wizard Castle, and All Electric for donating your time toward a good cause.

Thank you to the giant puppeteers. Thank you, Diana Waring, for making a beautiful poster and Tisbury Printer for printing it.

Always the first Saturday after Labor Day weekend, this music festival is usually a benefit for Martha’s Vineyard Community Radio, WVVY-LP, 96.7 FM. This year we decided to donate all proceeds to the Sam and Rose Myers Education Fund, in loving memory of Dave Myers.

Thank you to the Vineyard community for making this kind of event possible. People who have traveled the world playing music often tell me this is their favorite place to play. There’s something special about it that’s worth nurturing.
