Will banning mopeds have a serious impact on Island business?
I guess my question for you is “What do you mean by serious impact?”
If you are asking whether banning mopeds will have a positive impact on businesses my answer is YES. Those tourists that are intent on renting a vehicle will rent an auto. Those tourists intent on having the fresh air and sunshine while they traverse the island will rent a bicycle. Others will use Uber and taxis.
If what you are asking is whether banning mopeds will have a negative impact on businesses my answer is NO. Tourists will still get to beaches, restaurants, ice cream shops, tee shirt shops, stores, movie theaters, without placing themselves and the motoring public in danger.
If what you are asking is whether banning mopeds will make the Vineyard a better place, my answer is without hesitation YES! – Lisa Holley
No, I do not think it will have a serious impact on businesses. Tourists have a myriad of alternative transportation choices to see our island. Even if it did have an impact, it has been proven time and time again that mopeds are extremely dangerous to rent here – isn’t saving at least one life worth it? – Robin Harper
