On Wednesday, Feb. 22, Edgartown School students filled the gymnasium for the annual Edgartown School Spelling Bee. According to a press release, the following students represented their homerooms and battled for the honor of competing on behalf of the Edgartown Eagles at the Island-Wide Spelling Bee: Francis Paciello, Nolan Murphy, Clarissa Pinto, Nick Carpenter, Daniel Serpa, Micah Simmons, Ashley Brasefield, Cicero Batista-Neto, Avery Simmons, and Dylan Burke. The bee lasted an impressive 18 rounds. The winner was eighth grader Avery Simmons, who spelled her winning word “platoon” to take the top spot. The runner-up was fifth grader Nick Carpenter.
